Shalom, everyone! The following is part 4 of a series of video lectures called “Shem in the Land of Africa,” by renown educator Rabbi Akwetey Amaah. In this installment, Rabbi Akwetey discusses the true ancestral name of the “Yoruba” people. The name “Yoruba” was bestowed upon them by their European colonial conquerors. While the Fulani and Hausa people referred to them as the “Yarba” or “Yariba” people, the true name of “Yoruba” people is “Eyeo” or “Eveo” or making them a part of the large family of peoples in West Africa collectively known as the “Erverh” (Ehveh“Hebrews.” The Ehvehs (Êuês) are collectively one people who often identified themselves within this large group with individual clan and tribal names according to their respective dialects:
