TwelveTotems.org wish all who remember and observe a happy “August Mawnin’“ (“August Morning”) or Emancipation Day 2018. The holiday commemorates the anniversary of the emancipation of slaves throughout the former British Empire on August 1, 1834. In the early morning of August 1, 1834, some slaves in Jamaica climbed the mountaintops to usher in the dawn of their freedom. They would continue the celebration of their freedom in morning church services of thanksgiving. For this reason, the August 1st Emancipation Day is called “August Morning” or “August Mawnin’.” In 2018, “August Mawnin’” is commemorated on Wednesday, August 1, 2018.
Effective August 1, 1834, All enslaved persons below the age of six years received immediate emancipation, however, those six years and older were required to serve their former slavemasters as “paid” apprentices for an additional six years until August 1, 1840. The period of apprenticeship, however, was abolished two years early with full emancipation taking effect on August 1, 1838.
May The Most High YAH, Creator of the Universe, continue and complete the liberation of His people worldwide!
